Installing Rational Team Concert into an existing Eclipse
Hey guys,
Is Rational Team Concert basically just an Eclipse plug-in? If so, is it possible to install it into an existing instance of Eclipse? The reason I'm asking is that I'm using EasyEclipse for LAMP development and I really like the way it is setup. But, I would like to use Jazz for my version control and work item tracking. I'm trying to decide if it would be easier to track down the plug-ins I need turn the Rational Team Concert into essentially EasyEclipse, or if I can stuff Rational Team Concert into EasyEclipse. I'm a bit of a newbie with Eclipse so apologies if I've missed somethign obvious here. Thanks! Eric. |

Hi Eric,
The M5 milestone will contain changes to the IBM Installation Manager offering for the Rational Team Concert client which will give you the option of 'installing into an existing eclipse'. In the interim, there is a tech note located here: https://jazz.net/learn/tech-notes/TechNote.jsp?href=data/rtc-1_0-rad-7_5-coexistence/index.html which describes how to install the Rational Team Concert client with the RAD 75 Open Beta (which is also an Eclipse-based product). I believe you should be able to use a similar approach (just substitute 'EasyEclipse' for 'Rational Application Developer' in the steps) to integrate with your eclipse installation. -James Jazz Install Team |

I wasn't able to get this to work; after adding the extension locations, I restarted EasyEclipse.
I got an error saying that my presence information could not be updated. The details say that the platform has not started. That seemed like a sign that the plug-in was at least attempting to work. But, I didn't see any of the Jazz perspectives in my instance of EasyEclipse. I noticed that EasyEclipse uses a subtly different build of Eclipse than Rational Team Concert. The Eclipse build id of EasyEclipse that I have is: M20070212-1330. Whereas the Eclipse build id of Rational Team Concert is: M20070921-1145. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Thanks! Eric. |
I wasn't able to get this to work; after adding the extension locations, I restarted EasyEclipse. Have you ran Eclipse with "-clean" option? I see that you use milestone version of Eclipse 3.3. Have you tried the stable version? kind regards, Jakub |
