RTC Deployment to 'DD DUMMY' possible?

Fons Maathuis (25417) | asked Jul 01 '21, 9:24 a.m.

Hi all,

We want to be able to create one package with several z/OS datasets. This package should be deployable to different targets. Where on target one we want to use a certain set to be deployed, and on target two another set. Both sets have a common set, but also have a few target dependable sets. Don't want to have to build two packages, because we want to be sure the deployments from the common datasets are exactly the same timestamp.

I will try to explain.
The package contains MMM.A.X.JOBCARD, MMM.U.X.JOBCARD, RTC01.U.X.MODB and RTC01.U.X.LSTCOB.
On target one (deployment is to U environment on different LPAR)
MMM.U.X.JOBCARD to MMM.U.X.JOBCARD
RTC01.U.X.MODB to RTC01.U.X.MODB
RTC01.U.X.LSTCOB to RTC01.U.X.LSTCOB
MMM.A.X.JOBCARD no deployment
on target two (deployment is to A environment on different LPAR)
MMM.A.X.JOBCARD to MMM.A.X.JOBCARD
RTC01.U.X.MODB to RTC01.A.X.MODB
RTC01.U.X.LSTCOB to RTC01.A.X.LSTCOB
MMM.U.X.JOBCARD no deployment
So what comes to mind is what you do in JCL, DD DUMMY when the dataset is not needed.
Is it possible to use something like DUMMY to prevent a dataset from being deployed?

regards

Fons
