ClearCase access in beta2

Peter GardfjÀll (2186) | asked Jan 14 '08, 4:33 a.m.
Hi all,

I am having trouble setting up ClearCase access with the Jazz Beta 2 release.
I work in a dual environment with some Jazz clients running windows (with ClearCase version 6) and some Jazz clients running under Linux (with ClearCase 7).

According to the "Known limitations and workarounds in this release" section of the Jazz documentation, the ClearCase connector requires a synchronization process that is executed on a windows host with a ClearCase client of version 7.0.0+. Unfortunately, I only have a ClearCase 6 client in my windows environment. Now, until I get hold of a version 7+ windows client for ClearCase, is there a possibility to use the ClearCase connector without synchronization?
(this seems to be suggested in the Jazz documentation: "Users who work exclusively in the Rational Team Concert environment do not need to import or synchronize.")

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

regards, Peter

To use the Jazz Beta2 release of the ClearCase Connector, you do need to
have at least one Windows machine with ClearCase version 7 installed.

Unix support is targeted for the M5 release.

The release note is correct that users that work exclusively in Team
Concert do not need to import or synchronize, but at least one user has
to import and synchronize (or else you won't get any changes transferred
between TeamConcert and ClearCase).

Cheers,
Geoff

Will there be support for prior versions of Clearcase in future beta releases of Jazz? I am stuck in an environment where I am unable to upgrade to Clearcase 7 even though our team would like to because the prime contractor we are working with is staying on Clearcase 6. I'd really like to explore the Jazz technologies, but without Clearcase support it is a complete non-starter unfortunately.

I would suppose, based upon your message Geoff that one needs both the CC 7 client and server installed in order to import/synchronize...correct?

Thanks,
Chris

I've created a workitem that requests support for ClearCase 6.x versions
(workitem 46111). If you need (or would like) ClearCase 6.x support,
please indicate this by subscribing to that workitem.

WRT what needs to be installed, only a ClearCase 7.x client needs to be
installed on the machine hosting the sychronization process, but since
ClearCase requires that the server be at least at the level of the
client, that 7.x client would need to talk to a 7.x server.

Cheers,
Geoff (ClearCase Connector team)
