see plan changes (outside of snapshots)

Is there a way to view changes in plans outside of using snapshots?
Something like the history tab for work items?

Hi Ilona,

I don't think there is anything that gives quite as much detail as you are probably looking for. I know, because at our company, we were wondering the same thing :-)

We now do the following, hopefully this is adaptable to your situation:

1. Export all work items from a certain plan to CSV (using a query that shows the columns we want to track).
2. Changes are made to the plan
3. Run the same query again and export to CSV again
4. Add the data to one combined Excel & compare using conditional formatting (we've made a template out of this, so this is a pretty quick method for us now)

Just to give you an idea: we do the first query export after work items have been added to the plan and the second export after we've leveled the workload across resources (and perhaps moved tasks to another iteration).

I hope this helps you as well :-)

Plans for the most part just display the results of a (dynamic) query.   So the only way to capture the results of that query at a particular time would be to store those results somewhere.   A "plan snapshot" is one way to do it ... Vicky's answer is another.

Is there any way that I can compare ranks? Because that doesn't even seem to be part of the snapshot comparison

And is there a way to display the snapshot again (in full) to get the full information about the snapshot contents (not just the comparison view which doesn't really offer that much information it seems to me)
