Progress info on epics and user stories

Hello,
I created the following hierarchy in RTC, using the Scrum process template:
-epic
---user story
------task 1
------task 2
The effort estimates (time) go in the tasks. When the estimates are updated, they automatically reflect in the user story (% complete), but the epic does not show progress of the user stories under it. I wonder if epics will only get updated with progress info when they have child tasks directly under them.
What's your experience with this?
Thanks in advance.

The embedded progress bars (for epics, stories, ...) consider execution
items (tasks, defects, ...) only. Therefore, the epic will not show
progress. Still, you can open it in a plan and have the progress
displayed inline. Depending on the plan type it will report progress in
hours (from task, defects, ...) or in points (from stories ...). There
is no supported for mixed progress report, e.g. report progress on hours
and points.

This could be done using reports. Here is an example:
https://jazz.net/jazz/web/projects/Rational%20Team%20Concert#action=com.ibm.team.reports.viewQuery&queryUUID=_Zie0cKL8Ed6i6JlT0obBVg&name=Work%20Progress%20%28Live%29
You can find the report template in:
https://jazz.net/wiki/bin/view/Main/ReportsCentral
https://jazz.net/jazz/web/projects/Rational%20Team%20Concert#action=com.ibm.team.reports.viewQuery&queryUUID=_Zie0cKL8Ed6i6JlT0obBVg&name=Work%20Progress%20%28Live%29
You can find the report template in:
https://jazz.net/wiki/bin/view/Main/ReportsCentral

Does anyone know if it's possible to display work items from a query
in a parent/child indented layout?
e.g.
-Epic
--User Story
----task 1
----task 2
--User Story
----task 1
----task 2
----task 3
Plans show it also that way, or you can turn on the 'Relations...' from
the work item view's menu and you get a hierarchical view on the
selected items.

Hi Rafik,
Thanks for the pointer to reports. I got it setup and it looks good. I do see one anomaly in that some of the tasks under a story show a single entry of 'null'. Not clear why it's doing that since there is a clear parent-child relationship in the work items. But overall it looks pretty good.

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the pointers, both methods seem quite nice. I had actually looked for this in quite a few places in the view but never saw it. I also searched in the infocenter and google and nothing showed up. I figured I wasn't the first person to want this since it seemed so basic.
Thanks for your help!

This report is not one of those that we ship with RTC so we did not test it extensively; but we may ship it part of 3.0. Can you please create a Defect Work Item and attach a screenshot of the null and I will fix it.
Ok, opened a defect. I noticed today that there was only one item that had this issue v.s. yesterday where there were say a dozen.
Thanks for all your help!
