What are the inherent differences between plan types?

I am slogging through all of the configuration options for plans in RTC2.0, and find that I do not understand what the inherent differences between the plan types are.

com.ibm.team.tempo.plantype.iteration
com.ibm.team.apt.plantype.default
com.ibm.team.apt.plantype.release.project
com.ibm.team.apt.plantype.release

The plan type definitions describe what they are meant to be used for, but not the different capabilities. (They all appear to have the same configuration parameters when edited.)

Also, other than identifying the team correctly, does it make any difference if I select Team members from the project or the team?

The plan types determine what work items end up being on the plan.
"com.ibm.team.apt.plantype.default" is a plan for a single iteration and
a single team. A release plan is plan which includes all items of the
selected team and the selected iteration plus all child iterations. A
project release plan contains all work items that belong to a team plus
its children and the selected selected iteration plus all child
iterations.
