Is there any documentation on how plan views are shared between plans?

We are using RTC 5.0.2 and I am having issues dealing with Plan Views.  We have attempted to create some standard plan views that all plans of a certain type are to have.  I did this by promoting the desired plan view and the adding it to my plan type.  At first, I thought this was working correctly, but now I am not sure.  I have a team area that now every time I create a new "Product Backlog" plan (one we have customized), it winds up picking up an older version of the plan view and an 'unused view' that isn't associated with the plan type.  I can't figure out where this plan type/view set is coming from.  I have gone out and deleted all plans for this team and new plans are still created incorrectly.

Also, our users will want to tweak the plan view (adjust colors and some filters) after they create the plan.  Will these changes be only for their instance of the plan view or do those changes impact the promoted plan view that was added to their plan?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Jamie.

There was also a good question/response around promoting and custom views some days ago. I can't find it anymore.......

If the plan is created, the views are populated from the specification. Once populated, the plan view modifications are local to the plan and don't show up on other plans.

Thanks Ralph.  This is what I would have expected but we are seeing some strange behaviors.  The biggest is that for one of our teams, we are trying to create a new plan using our plan type that has our 2 customized plan views.  When the plan is created, it has a third view and one of the other views doesn't match the configuration that we see in the process configuration for the Project shared view.

Any idea what might be going on here?

Thanks,
Jamie.
