Adding fields

Sterling Ferguson-II (1.6k13288273) | asked Mar 25 '09, 1:29 p.m.
Hello all,

Sorry to sound like such a newbie, but how do I add a field to RQM? I would like to add Req-type to Requirements to separate types of requirements:

Administrative
Functional
etc...

thanks...

One thing I wanted to add regarding customizations...
You will need to be aware that when RQM is upgraded to a new version,
it will overwrite the default RQM process template so any
customizations that had been made to that template would be lost. If
users want to keep their customizations between versions, then they
should make a copy of the RQM process template, and customize that
copy instead, then create their projects based off their copy. If
changes are made to the default RQM template that they want to apply
to their projects, that can be done manually in order not to lose the
other customizations.

Just to clarify this point a bit, while customizations to the process
template may be lost when upgrading, this shouldn't affect Project Areas
already created with a customized template or even those customized
after creation. However, after migration if you want to create new
Project Areas, you would need to re-apply the changes to the process
template.

Hi all,

I have a question regarding the same subject.

I want to customize the RQM testcase section by adding some fields to it.

I've already tried to do this with the RTC client, but unfortunately i realized that i can just manipulate workitems via RTC say:
-Defects
-Requirements
-Etc...

So i want to know, if it's even possible to customize the testcases in RQM ? If yes, does anyone know how to do that.

Many thanks in advance for your help

Hi, you can customize the sections that appear in a Test Case, e.g., remove existing sections, or add new rich text sections, and also rename them. However at this point there is not a way to add or change the fields within the sections. Hope that helps.

Hi,

Interestingly, since many days I am struggling to add values of my choice in the following fields in RQM Defects form:

1. Planned For
2. Filed Against and
3. Found In

Filed Against field has an icon clicking which it displays me an error box stating: 'Guessing the category did not achieve a result'.

Above mentioned fields are grayed out and do not allow me to insert any value to these drop downs so that I can make selection while raising a defect.

I did a proof of concept by installing RTC Standard Edition along with RQM. And then I was able to do it on a test environment. But this means, I need to buy RTC standard full edition (costing nearly USD18100) just to display some values in these fields in RQM.

I am lost. Could I populate/insert values in these 3 fields without using RTC full edition?? Can I use just the RTC client and do it? If yes then how??

As I understand from my proof of concept excercise, I need to do Cross Server Connectivity between RQM Server and RTC Server. And installing RTC client will not establish this connectivity. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong here?

Please help.

Hi. In the earlier example, I meant that if you added new fields to Requirements using the work item editor, I believe that those values would not show up in the page displayed by selecting Requirements/All Requirements from the RQM main menu.

Which artifacts are you interested in customizing besides Requirements? That will help to answer the question.

You could request enhancements for customization support, but it is a large area so it would probably be best to break it down somewhat. Thanks.
