This exception is thrown for various license issues... (ref: item 62189)... including...
1) You have no licenses assigned
2) You have a license assigned, but it doesn't allow the operation
3) You have a floating license but it could not be assigned
4) You have a floating license assigned which does not allow the operation.
5) Something else.
If it stopped after a year, I'm guessing (3) and you were out of floating licenses. I don't know how to check up on this.
