RQM v4.0.2 Can category values be 'retired'?

We define a category, and there are tens or hundreds new values for each release. After a release, most of the values are not used any more. We however cannot delete them because we need them for audit, to retrieve old artifacts.

How can we make the list shorter so it is easier to find the one to assign while still allow to use them to retrieve.

When you archive the category type, they are still accessible in the Trash View for audit purposes (see http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/clmhelp/v4r0m3/topic/com.ibm.rational.test.qm.doc/topics/c_deleting_artifacts.html) but no longer referenced by the test artifacts.  However, if you archive the category value, they are still accessible in the Trash View for audit purposes and referenced by the test artifacts.
