Sharing Work Items - customized artifacts - between 2 projects

Hi,

What do I need to cofigure/setup in order to be able to manage all of my custom work items AND be able to share them between more than 1 project

I have a scenario where I have more then 2 projects:

Proj A (CCM) - using customized artifacts manage all my work item requests from other projects (Proj B, Proj C, ...)

Proj B (CCM)

Proj C (CCM)

Proj ....

What I did:

  • Setup Proj A and enabled 'process sharing' for other projects to use
  • Setup Proj B, C and enabled 'process sharing' to be able to use processes from Proj A

What I can do:

  • I can create customized work items in Proj A, Proj B, and Proj C

What I am having trouble with:

  • In Proj A - I cannot see any work items that were created in Proj B or Proj C
  • In Proj B or Proj C - I cannot see any work items that were created in Proj A

I want Proj A to be the master view for all customized work items that were created in Proj B and C, as well as in Proj B/C I want to be able to see all customized work items from Proj A

I hope I'm not asking for too much :D

We only have "Process Sharing" which supports sharing the process configuration (such as roles, permissions, workitem types and so on). We never support to share project items (such as workitems, plans, changesets and so on).

For your case, you can try to setup ProB,C,D as child team areas of ProA.

 Hello Arthur,
PA inheritance should work here.

PA A : use any OOTB template where you will customize your work item types
PA B, C, ... : unse "unconfigured process template"

Have PA A shared, and all other PAs inherit from PA A.

Hope it helps.

Hi Eric, Thanks for the reply.  I also commented this in Sam's reply below.. I may have not been as clear in my question.  I am looking to share/view the contents of the work items, not the process templates.

what do you mean by 'see'?  you can LINK between them, and with 4.0.1 and later  you can use cross project plans. but workitems will not appear in Queries between two projects.

Project sharing mean the technical definition of a project (workitems, workflows, ...). nothing else.

Hi Sam, I guess project sharing will not allow me to share the contents of the project, only technical definitions. I was hoping to be able to share the actual contents of the workitems.  So when someone creates a work item in Proj B, I want to be able to see the work item including its contents in Proj A.  Is this possible? Business case:  I have Test Data Managenet project that is setup (Proj A) and I am creating data for other projects (Proj B/C).  I do not want to go into each Proj B,C,D,ect in order to see what items need to be worked on and how to prioritize the work.  I want to be able to manage all my work items in one project Proj A.
