This might be covered in the 4.0.3 work item: [JAF] [Process] Universal history on process resources (93159)
In particular, it mentions project area rename as one of the history events being tracked.

As an Admin I would love to track such changes, and I see that there was a RFE on similar lines earlier too:
Provide audit trail for changes made to team area and project area (213195).

I guess you could raise a newer RFE for this.

Did you look at the "Recent Events" for the Team ?  You should see
"Common properties of area 'Blah' was changed by Yours Truly"
