Discrepancy in "Check attributes usages in repository" for Show Items: Why ?

Scenario:

RTC 4.0.1.  Deployed an automated process change which altered certain work item attributes.  Was facing issues with those work items display in WebUI, so decided to do the Check attributes usage.  1st run, reports 218 work items don't have all attributes. Ok.  Synchronize them please.  Running a re-check says 8 of 218 are missing attributes. Clicking on the "Show Items" gives back the whole 218.    How can I find those last 8 ?
Why are all 218 shown when only expect 8 ?
