Can't create iteration plan as the only iteratio is NOT USED

We have a project area created with the default development line being archived. And its only iteration show as Not Used under Process Iterations.

We are trying to use iteration plan to manage workitems and are told that we can just create new development line and iterations under, then should be able to create corresponding iteration plans. But although we successfully created new dev. line and iteration and set it as current one, each time we tried to create an iteration plan against it, the only iteration to be selected is still Not Used (archived) in the Select Iteration dialog, and the new iteration just won't show up for us to select.

What do I miss here? How do I activate the new created iteration to create iteration plan for it? Please help us out of this mud

Is your new iteration set to have a release scheduled?
Select the iteration, Edit Properties...

My understanding is that an iteration must have a release scheduled to be
able to create the iteration plan.

In addition to Darin post, also make sure that there a team associated
with the development line.

Yes, I made sure it has a release scheduled when creating the iterations. But the new iteration doen's seem to show up when you try to create an iteration plan for it even though it does show up under the Plan folder on rich client.

How do I check if it has a team area associated and how to do it if it is not?

Open the team area editor and check the Development Line section on the

Overview tab. It allows you to select a development line for the team area.

Thanks, Johannes,
Ok, followed your instruction, I found that the tema area was still associated with the archived development line. And I can create iteration plan now after I associated it with the deveopment line I just created.
