Cannot check 'Hide past iterations' under Work Items preferences

I am trying to hide work items that are associated with past iterations, but this option doesn't seem to stay checked. I am working in RTC 4.0.1 Eclipse client.

We tried in RTC 3.0.1.3 and this option stayed selected. Is this a defect?
