If one have a set of test cases covering a complete platform and then extract the test cases covering a specific instance of the platform, can I then while selecting the test cases add values to attributes or variables in the test case.

It probably have to be through the REST interface.

You can use the RQM Reportable API to create categories and add them to test resources.
