How to migrate/copy assets from RQM 3.x to 4.x?

Hi folks,

I'd like to know if there's a possible way to migrate RQM assets stored in a certain Project Area from RQM 3.x, on one server, to RQM 4.x, on another server.

We experienced a similar situation when migrating our assets from RQM 2.x to RQM 3.x. In that time, and since we were using Test Plans/Suites/Cases templates customized by us (actually, we are still using them), the only way we figured out to have all our artifacts in 3.x was re-creating artifact by artifact (mostly Test Plans and Test Cases) and copying all the content inside each of them from the Source Project Area to the target Project Area.

Clearly this time this "manual migration" option will be not only painful but almost impossible, specially when having more than 800 artifacts created in RQM 3.x.

Could you please help me to figure out what could be the best possible way to migrate (or maybe copy?) these artifacts from RQM 3.x on one server to RQM 4.x on another server?

If you need more information on details in order to provide a solution please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @mvmtori,
I think you can have a try with RQM copy utility.

the user in RQM 4.x need to assign the "Data Migration Administrator" role first.

Thanks Hao Wan!

Now, I started reading the content in https://jazz.net/wiki/bin/view/Main/RQMCopyUtility and according to it, the RQM Copy Utility is not compatible between Rational Quality Manager versions.

Is this true? If so, then I won't be able to use the Copy utility to copy test artifacts from 3.x to 4.x, will I?
