Asset & Community Statistics

iRAM Administrator (3152156135) | asked Mar 22 '12, 1:21 p.m.
Hello,
We would like to know if asset Download Statistics should be the same on both the 2 following pages:
1. Statistics on Asset General Details page
Steps to open Statistics Asset Usage page
A. Open any Asset in iRAM
B. Click Statistics link in Asset
C. Click Asset Usage Link under Statistics Link
D. See the "Usages" metric
E. Click on "Usages" to get "Downloads"

Should the Usages be equal to Downloads? If not, what is the difference between the two metrics?

2. "Popular Downloads" on community homepage:

- Number of asset downloads is written next to the asset name on the right side.

Thanks in Advance

They are not the same.

Download is a recorded for every download.

A usage is download or browse of any artifact of an asset, but they are collapsed to just one usage of the asset within a hour's time frame.

For example:

1) 12:00 - Download - Asset Usage 1 is created
2) 12:05 - Artifact browsed - no asset usage created because still within one hour of asset usage #1.
3) 1:04 - Download - no asset usage created because still within one hour of asset usage #2 (latest usage).
4) 2:10 - Download - Asset Usage 2 is created since it was over an hour since download 3.

Thanks Richard for your prompt reply.

I need further information, please:
- what is meant by artifact browsed?

- To get counted in the Download metric, user should click on "Download this asset" button. Is there any other way where the Download metric get incremented?
a. what happens when user right-click + Save As/ Open on the artifact in either the Featured Content section or Contents tab?
Does the Download metric get incremented?

Thanks

Download means download the entire asset at once as a zip.

Artifact browse means you clicked on one of the artifacts on the content page to see the artifact.

Hey Rich,

What about if you view an asset that doesn't have any artifacts? Does that get counted as a browse? We have lots of assets that just have content in the Description field and want to track when they are viewed.

Will tracking browses catch this or is there some other way I should be doing it?

Thanks!

Asset browse is not considered to be a usage of the asset, so no just looking at an asset in the web is not counted in asset usage.

You would need to also look at Asset Browse metric to see when an asset was browsed.

Yes, I understand that. My question is "Is viewing an asset that has no artifacts considered to be a browse?".

I've tested viewing several assets that have no artifacts attached, and the browse count did not go up.

It looks like just opening an asset for viewing does not constitute a browse. It seems like you have to view an artifact for it to count. Is this correct?

We have many assets with no artifacts and I'm trying to figure out how to accurately report how many times they have been looked at.

Thanks,

There is browse artifact and browse asset. Browsing an asset is recorded just like asset usage, in other words as many times as an asset is browsed within an hour there is only one browse metric created.

Got it. Thanks for explaining.
