Monitoring a RAM Instance with Agents

Dan Duce (2534745) | asked Mar 01 '12, 11:08 a.m.
Hi Guys,

Is there a list anywhere of which elements should be monitored in a RAM instance to maximize availability?

I'm wondering about the following:

File space: which filespaces should be monitored

Processes: Which processes should be monitored and can they be restarted by an agent if they are detected as down?

Database: Are there table spaces or other parameters that should be monitored

I'm assuming that CPU and memory utilization should be monitored on both the RAM and DB2 server.

Can you provide specific information that I could give to a hosting team to implement?

Thanks!

The simple answer is ... yes, all of the above. ... RAM is dependent on a DB, FileSystem, WAS (this really mean on the WAS cluster, WebServer .... which imply processes, network .... which mean their logs)

Monitoring RAM is really generic monitoring for resources it depends on ....

Yes.... I realized that. I guess what I meant to ask was has Rational put together monitoring recommendations that customers can use to make sure they don't miss anything critical?
File system monitoring is obvious, but I'm not sure what are all the services that need to be running to ensure that RAM is up and active.

It is a J2EE/IT kind of question ... there are many ad hoc, and specialized tools from IBM (Tivoli) to monitor such things. You can google it.
