Replicating Common Work Items Across Project Areas

RUP, OpenUP, Eclipse Way etc is composed of roles, tasks and work products. Is there an effort underway to create work items for process tasks?

If not, what are the barriers to creating common work items that could be used across projects? For example, tasks in the Inception phase are fairly static - or at least it would be nice to start inception with a set of pre-canned work items.

Thanks,
-Matt

You can configure process templates with work item templates from which work items will be created when a project area is initialized. (See, e.g., Process Templates view > Eclipse Way Process > Process Configuration > Project Configuration > Project Area Initialization > Setup Project server follow-up action.) Maybe that's close to what you are looking for, sharing work items across projects is currently not possible and would have the problem that each project would want to track completion of these tasks independently.

We don't have support in 1.0 that allows to create work items out of
process tasks as listed for example in the process description.

We don't have support in 1.0 that allows for creating work items
automatically when the current iteration changes. We have been thinking
about this but didn't have a change to implement it. The closest you can
currently get is implementing a custom follow-up action for the 'Current
Iteration Changed' event.
