How can I setup a few hundred test case categories?

Hi,

I need to automate the creation of a few hundred test case categories. Otherwise it will be a very laborious process creating them manually.

How can I do it?

I've tried RQMExcelImporter. I don't think it supports categories.

I have the xml files but I'm unsure whether and how I can use Poster or the RQMUrlUtility.

Any advice please?

Thanks.

Hi David,

Currently I think that the UI is the easiest way to create the categories. While this could be done with the API, since the categories would need to be PUT to the server one at a time, I think it would actually be more work.

There is currently a plan to add support for this to the Excel Import tool. See https://jazz.net/jazz02/resource/itemName/com.ibm.team.workitem.WorkItem/54787 for details.

Thanks Robert. This is really helpful - I thought I might be able to use Poster or RQMUrlUtility to add them all at once. Based on your response I won't waste anymore time on it.

Meanwhile, I have found a quick alternative - I already have the folder structure in TestManager. I just need to adjust it slightly and run the migration tool to get all the categories I need. That will do until the ExcelImporter is enhanced.

Regards, Dave.
