Data loss when publishing ETL jobs

I realize this is more of a Cognos question than an Insight question, but was hoping I could get some help or at least pointed in the right direction.

I have several ETL's that I've published from Data Manager to my Insight server, and run these on a scheduled basis. I've found that if I make any changes to the ETL and have to re-publish, I lose all my job history in the 'Past Activities' area of Cognos Administration. I also lose any schedules that existed, and have to re-create. I'm guessing this is because it's considered a new job and not an update, but I'm really not sure.

Is there a setting I can use to override this, or some way to avoid this problem in the future?

That is the expected behavior there are no settings to override it.
