Creating TCERs Prior to Executing TSERs
According to Defect 52480 the defect we encountered is going to be fixed in CLM 2011 FP1. Since we realized the fix to this defect was not going to be instant, we followed the suggested work around in Defect 52480. We generated all of the Test Case Execution Records in advance using the Bulk TCER Creation Wizard in the Test Plan. Using this process we are able to accurately track how many TCERs were not yet run, a metric which we could not track previously. While assigning the correct owner to each TCER in advance is a bit tedious, assigning the test plan, milestone, and environment is a very easy task to complete in bulk. In fact, this is a process we plan to continue even after delivery of the new defect resolution.
Our question relates to how our current process may be affected by the new defect resolution. If we create the TCERs in bulk prior to execution of the TSERs and associate the approiate test plans, milestones, and test environment what will happen when the user executes the TSER. Will the previously created TCER simply inherit the owner executing the TSER or will a whole new TCER be created? In summary, we like that by creating TCERs in advance we can track the number of TCERs not yet run using the tools reporting features. Even after the defect resolution is delivered it would not do this automatically because the TCERs are not created until the TSERs are executed. We do not plan on running all TSERs on the first day of test execution. After the defect resolution is delivered, we still plan to bulk create the TCERs with the appropiate test plan, test environment, and milestone but not the owner. We are hoping that whenever we begin to execute the TSER that the previously created TCER is automatically assigned the owner executing the test case in the TSER. We would like to know so we can plan our processes accordingly. Thanks, Paul |

Hi There,
TCER (TER) are generated when executing TSER only on need basis, if there does not already exist a TCER with the plan, testcase, milestone and configuration combination. To remind you RQM does not allow duplicate TCER means no two TCER can have all 4 same properties mentioned above. To answer your question " I think this is not right platform to discuss it here but workitem itself. As of now I understand owner will not be changed as part of executing a TCER under TSER execution context. Owner will be set only when new TCER need to be created. -|- Pramod K Chandoria |
