Editor plugin does not work in Firefox 5

Kenny Smith (302614) | asked Jun 21 '11, 9:48 a.m.
I am setting up samples and am using RRC 3.0.1 (actually the full CLM combo), and its a fresh installation from scratch. When I try to create a sketch in Firefox, I get prompted to install the plugin, but the plugin fails and says the plugin is not compatible with Firefox 5.0.

Does anyone know if there will be quick fix for this? Firefox 5 is rolling out very quickly these days.

Though the officially supported browser version of Firefox is 3.6, I am running Firefox 4.0.1 successfully. The only issue is when you open visual editors the first time, and the browser is maxed, you need to reduce and maximise the browser to get the content to show.

As you found there is a version problem with the plugin in FF5. The rest of RRC should work, including commenting and linking on the visual diagrams but not the plug-in editor.

The only thing I can suggest is either downgrade FF to an earlier version, I believe FF 3.7 is still available or maybe use IE7 or IE8 for the plug-in to edit and create the visual diagrams.

It is great to see that we are adressing this. Firefox's accelerated release schedule is making compatibility really annoying!

Do we have an ETA on when we'll get an RRC plugin (via the installation manager update) that will work with FF5 and FF6?

Thanks
Saurabh

Hello Saurabh,

The next release (3.0.1.1) is due out in mid-October. While it will allow you to install the browser add-on for any version of Firefox beginning with 3.6 (including FF5 and FF6), I should point out that official support is still only for FF 3.6 (and IE7 and IE8). We have not encountered any significant issues with the newer versions, aside from what Robin described earlier which we are also addressing, but if you do find a problem, you'll need to reproduce it using a supported version of the browser to get official support. Obviously you can report it via a work item regardless and we'll do our best to address it as best we can.

Just as a workaround, you can install the Plug-in in (unsupported) Firefox browsers by setting the extensions.checkCompatibility.<version> preference to false before installing.

Example:

  • type about:config as url, ignore warning
  • right-click, add New > Boolean
  • set extensions.checkCompatibility.7.0 (if you have FF 7) as name and "false" as value
  • install RRC Editor Plugin and restart browser

Have not noticed any problems so far in newer FF versions...

Is there a link or URL to the plug-in?

Hm, I meant in the FF browser..It's a browser setting, that can be set.
See attachment on work item:

Is there a link or URL to the plug-in?

Please note that we are now running RRC V3.0.1.1 on our self-host project

https://jazz.net/rm/web

And I have tested the plug-in with FF 7.0.1
