Team Communication (mailing list, email notifications etc)

Hello,

We are a research team from University of Macedonia, Greece, running a project (https://jazz.net/hub/manager/project/UoMProject) hosted here on jazz.net.
We would prefer to have all the communication regarding this project handled from within Rational Team Concert - is this possible? By communication I mean to setup email alerts/notifications about changes and additions to the project, a mailing list etc.

Thanks in advance,
Kostas

Hi, Kostas,

Yes, your project participants can subscribe to be informed when work items or other project artifacts are changed. There is a good deal of information in the "Library" section of the main jazz.net page.

Hello Brian and thanks for your reply,

If you could provide me with some direct links ti the material it would be very helpful. Before my post I searched across the "Library" section but I wasn't able to find anything useful.

Thanks in advance,
Kostas

For changes/additions to the project, users will have to subscribe to feeds that RTC exposes. Here's a handy article that explains these feeds: https://jazz.net/library/article/344. It's a little bit out of date, but it's still correct.

There is no mailing list feature in RTC, but you can create a work item, and subscribe all of the users you'd like to be notified, and then comment on the work item. By default, users get emails when changes happen to work items they're subscribed to. We do this quite regularly within the normal flow of Jazz development, especially for tracking the progress of builds. Here's an example Track Build Item from Jazz Foundation: https://jazz.net/jazz/web/projects/Jazz%20Foundation#action=com.ibm.team.workitem.viewWorkItem&id=168580

Hope that helps.

In addition to Rob's very helpful post you might want to look at the Rational Team Concert Information Center at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/clmhelp/v3r0/index.jsp The section on Work Items has details about work items and subscribing for notifications. There is also a section on collaborating including using instant messaging services between users.

There is also a set of web-based training modules on getting started with Rational Team Concert that provide a good introduction. https://jazz.net/library/video/598

Hope that helps as well,

Brian
