I am using IBM Rational Software Architect for WebSphere Software
Version: 7.5.5.2
Build ID: 20100923_2051

In the "pending changes" window i can see lots of unecessary files, which are due to be checked in (such as java crash dumps, various test files, .txt, etc)

When i right click on a file, it only gives me a chance to ignore a single file.

is it possible to ignore files based on pattern? Am i simply missing such menu item?

In the preferences there are settings where you can do exactly that. Look in Preferences - Team - Ignored Resources
