M6 Importing LDAP names from Bluepages

Tom Frauenhofer (1.3k58435) | asked Apr 10 '08, 9:44 p.m.
With help from Pravesh and Shawn, I've managed to get my M6 server to
the point where I can begin 'creating' users . i.e. importing users from
the User Registry which in my case means Bluepages.

I've gotten nowhere using the Web UI to create users but I've done a
little better with the RTC client.

However, I've noticed that the RTC client will not find any Bluepages
people who have a parentheses in their name .... and there's lots of
entries like that.

My own Bluepages entry looks like this:

Ward, David G. (DAVID)

I have been unable to import any user with a name like this.
Unfortunately for me, all of my team, (less one) have Bluepages names of
this form. The one team member who did not have the (NAME) in their
entry, was import'able if I included the middle initial plus the period.

Can someone give me some advice about what RTC search syntax to use to
find Bluepages entries of this form ?

Are there plans to relax the search syntax so users can conveniently
find names of this form ?

David,

User Id, Name and Email address are 3 required fields in Jazz repository for
a Contributor.

In bluepages LDAP registry, User Id is mapped to mail, name to cn and email
address to mail fields.

In M6, we map the name and email address to the first value of cn and mail
properties in LDAP registry. In RC1, we have plans to allow users to select
the name and email address from the set of values in LDAP registry (editing
a user can be done in user editor).

We don't have any plans for allowing users to change the user id because
user id is an identity field in Jazz repository and it requires extensive
changes. I will update the forums list if our plans change.

Sorry to start up this thread again. It's possible for a user (at least
in IBM) to indirectly change their preferredIdentity email address in
LDAP. Speaking from personal experience (in IBM), if you do this then it
isn't possible to change your email address back again.

What would be the impact on a Jazz repository and the individual's
ability to use the Jazz repository if this happens?

Thanks,
Jeremy

In RC1 we added the ability to change your email address to be any of the
email addresses that are provided from LDAP.
If your current Jazz user email address does not match any of the email
addresses from LDAP, a warning is presented in your user editor to help you
know you need to make the change.

I do not know of any impact on your usage on the Jazz repository with a
change in your LDAP email address: your userid and password would remain
valid.

Hi Darins, thanks for responding. Some more questions in line ...

This is good news, but the way we're using Jazz is for the user id to be
the same as the preferredIdentity email address at the time the user is
given access to the Jazz repository.

All web applications I know of that use the 'bluepages' LDAP for
authentication only work if you enter your preferredIdentity email
address as the user id. If your preferredIdentity email address changes,
then so does the 'userid' for all the 'bluepages' LDAP based web
applications.

In RC1, will changing email address also change the user id used to
login? Or just the email address notifications are sent to?

If your current Jazz user email address does not match any of the email
addresses from LDAP, a warning is presented in your user editor to help you
know you need to make the change.

I don't believe this will happen with 'bluepages' LDAP. AIUI you can't
shake off an email address in IBM. You just start using a new email
address (preferredIdentity). This is a good thing because no-one else
can take an old email address you once had and receive emails intended
for you.

I do not know of any impact on your usage on the Jazz repository with a
change in your LDAP email address: your userid and password would remain
valid.

So this suggests an answer to my question above and enforces something
I've seen elsewhere - once given a userid in Jazz you can't change it.

What's the best practice you're recommending here? It feels like if the
authentication mechanism is tied to the preferredIdentity email address,
the userid shouldn't be the preferredIdentity if the preferredIdentity
can be changed.

Thanks,
Jeremy
