BF2011 M4 Import UI

Steve Scivally (1143) | asked Sep 21 '10, 5:02 p.m.
Seems there is some opportunity for a better UI during the import process.

The screen starts with what looks like two panes:
Top Pane: import button, browse for file, and a section of checkboxes for what within the input file should be processed.
Bottom Pane: blank

After you click import, there is one pane, with the log of your import injected at the top and, if you scroll all the way to the bottom, the same components that were in the top pane before.

I'd suggest the bottom pane be treated as the log output from the import process. In addition, if the imported data was broken down into a tree-like control with +/- next to each top-level element that was selected to be imported would make it more usable.

Thoughts?

Hi,

Thanks for checking out the BF2011 M4 demo build. This is kind of a transition period for the UI as the 'new' UI is under development, and the new import was hooked into the old UI page. The viewlet for import in the new UI has not been created yet, but your feedback for how the existing import page in the 'old' UI is valuable when development begins on the new import UI view.

If you'd like to check out the new UI, there are a few pages in the M4 build that you can view by using the URL: http://:9080/newui . In the upcoming M5 demo build, there will be more pages available for viewing in the new UI.

There is also a video at http://jazz.net/library/video/462 of the new UI. However, it is based off a build earlier than M4.
