Scaling back the RTC client (where did Capabilities go?)

Harry Koehnemann (30125238) | asked Jul 30 '10, 12:08 p.m.
Is there a way to back off some of the RTC features for those that don't want or need them? For example, removing the JDT related stuff for people that don't need it. In standard Eclipse we can filter features in Preferences > General > Capabilities, but that menu item seems to be missing in the RTC Eclipse shell. Where did it go? The RSA Eclipse shell provides very detailed selection, but RTC appears to have removed it.

The use case here is RTC interface and all it's options can be a bit overwhelming and we'd like to pair it down for roles that don't need everything. And it gets worse in 3.0 w/ 10 folders under each project - can we filter those that are irrelevant?

FYI, the response of "use the web" doesn't work for users that need CM and their repo workspace to manage shared artifacts.

Those 10 folders in 3.0 is a temporary thing, it will only be 5. We don't have plans to use capabilities as we've had feedback from customers that they are hard to use and discover. Instead, maybe providing a simple perspective per role would be easier?

Thanks for the prompt response. It would be nice to roll back the basic Eclipse capabilities (Development) that user's don't need. I like the idea of a perspective, but it would be nice to remove the views, context menus, etc. that some of those Eclipse (and RTC!) plug-ins contribute. Thanks again.
