Text is corrupt by whitespace issues when editing via web UI

Robin Fernandes (1121) | asked May 28 '10, 5:58 a.m.
Hi all,

When I paste text into a comment or description field in the Web UI and save, the rendered content is often corrupt. Space characters appear to be added in apparently arbitrary positions throughout the text, and existing whitespace is inconsistently replaced by   entities that are not correctly encoded - so they bleed through into the displayed content.

This has some fairly nasty consequences, especially when trying to share code snippets.

Anyone else seeing this? Is there a workaround?

If the description above is not clear enough, let me know and I'll provide screenshots.

I'm on RTC 2.0.0.2.

Cheers,
Robin

Curious error - what browser are you using? Is there a chance that your server is on a machine with a different locale to your client?

I see this in Chrome 6. I just tried in FF 3.6 and don't see the issue, so it looks like it's specific to Chrome. I'm using an En_GB locale for my browser - I suspect the server is En_GB or En_US.

Hi Robin

I have been using Chrome with RTC, and must admit not having noticed this. Although Chrome is not an officially supported browser for RTC - it generally works very well.

I'd recommend creating a work item filed against the component's Web UI. e.g. if you're seeing it in the Work Items Web UI, file it against Work Items. It may have something to do with how the text is being read from the fields or processed later.
