Migration process with DB2/RAM71to72/Clearcase 70

asha s (62) | asked Apr 16 '10, 1:40 p.m.
I need some detailed information on RAM Migration.
My user has a set up of RAM 7.1.1 and is migrating to RAM 7.2.
We are getting wrong Repository Statistics when we migrated RAM 7.1 to RAM 7.2 .0.1 Test environment (Number of subscriptions and Number of searches).

DB2 9.1 and Clearcase 7.0

Case1 : In current Migration we had moved the DB2 first and was checked , then we got to know that we are able to upload asset but not able to download asset as we didn't move the VOB(storage for artifacts)

Case 2: Then we moved the VOB(copy and paste without locking and shutting down clearcase) to test storage, where it is registered and done all the required steps. After that we created new view which is pointing to the copied VOB.
We are able to download the asset which we were not able to do the same in Case1.

Could you please let me know the procedure that we need to follow for migration.
Is what we have followed appropriate or is there any glitch. I went through publib and was not sure of this scenario of migration.

Hello,
When assets are submitted to RAM using ClearCase persistence, the
GUID/unique IDs in ClearCase are recorded for submitted assets. That
helps RAM download the exact files from CC.

Now I dont know how the CC copy of the VOB was done, but am hoping that
the GUIDs of the VOB/paths/etc. got preserved. Other than that you can
always point to the VOB with any dynamic view on any system and it
should work. Since you say you are able to download once again, it looks
like the GUIDs are being preserved.

One suggestion would be to leave the original VOB in place (dont copy)
and just create a new dynamic view from the 7201 system.

The only other thing is that you would need to delete that test asset
where you determined that you didnt have CC view as persistence - as now
the dynamic view wont have its content.
Regards,
Srimanth.

Hi Srimanth

Thanks for the info.

Is this sequence correct for the migration in this scenario:

1.Take a back up of DB2 data
2.Install and set up 721 RAM
3.Create a new dynamic view to access the exisitng VOB

Please suggest if otherwise

Thanks and Regards

When migrating to 7202, (or before migrating), its highly recommended to update your db2 and websphere to latest fixpacks (or at least the fixpacks recommended by RAM 7202) . db2 9.1 with no fixpack is very old and is known to cause issues with RTC (RAM uses RTC under the covers)

The latest db2 9.1 is at fixpack 9 available at

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=71&uid=swg27007053

(note make sure you are using the latest db2 driver jars after applying the fixpack)

websphere fixpacks are available at

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980

again please apply both AppServer & SDK fixpacks, (For RTC to work the fixpack level for WAS 6.1 should be 23 or greater, and WAS 7.0 should be 5 or greater)
