Error Installing Rational Insight

Ahmad Timsal (361) | asked Apr 12 '10, 2:09 a.m.
Hi,

I have tried to install Rational Insight 1.0. I have a DB2 up and running. The insight installer carried out all the installation tasks successfully. But when i try to access the insight servlet using the URL http://localhost:port/insight/servlet, it gives page not found error, I have tried almost all URL's but it gives the same error.... I have checked the WAS Admin Console for any manual settings, but every thing mentioned in the documentation seems set, and the Cognos 8 Application is also running.

The WebSphere Logs shows the following:

    Hi Lawrence,

Thanks alot for the constant support. I have tried running this URL :

    http://localhost:9080/insight/servlet/dispatch

    but it returns:
    "An error has occurred.
DPR-ERR-2109 The dispatcher cannot service the request at this time. The dispatcher is still initializing. Contact your administrator if this problem persists.
Please try again or contact your administrator."

I have searched for this error, and the IBM Support states that:

"It may take several minutes for the Cognos Web application to initialize. The Cognos content store must start before the Cognos Web application can initialize. By default, you can view the status of the content store at http://localhost:9080/insight/servlet".

The latter URL shows the Content Store is NOT RUNNING, so naturally the next web app page is not displayed. I have waited for like 15 minutes.... but with no results. Could you guide me in this regard???

    Hi Lawrence,

Thanks alot for your help related to the Installation of Insight. I really appreciate that. I am encountering a problem while running the sample reports, It says:

An attempt to connect to the data source failed.

    Data source:
    RIDW

and asks for my user credentials for DB2. But When I supply it with my db2admin user name and password, it generates an error....
I have checked the database connection through the cognos configuration utility and it is successful... Some forums suggest to deploy Cognos Single-Sign on to remove this issue...

I would be glad for your help... Why isn't it accepting my db2admin user name and password ?

    Hi Tim,

Can you give me a synopsis of how you set the RIDW user and password? (Clicked here, changed this field, etc.)

Note that by default Insight creates a report user "rptuser" and configures the system to use this user for running reports. If you created your databases manually this user will not have been created automatically. In general I recommended that for security purposes when running reports you make use of a user that has select only access to the database. The insert, update,... user will need to be used when running ETL jobs.

I have deployed the Insight Application (Manually) on WAS, using the steps mentioned in the guide. I have checked the WEB-INF folder, Now it contains the lib folder and jar files....

    BUT :(

When I run http://localhost:9080/insight , I get an error : File Not Found

But When I run http://localhost:9080/insight/servlet, I get the screen:

    IBM Cognos 8

    Content Manager

    Build: 8.4.2519.0
Start time: Tuesday, May 11, 2010 10:05:20 AM PKT
Current time: Tuesday, May 11, 2010 10:07:36 AM PKT
    State: Not running. See logs.

Why is application not running ? Any help in this regard would be appreciated...

    There are two issues here:

    1. http://localhost:port/insight does not redirect to http://localhost:port/insight/servlet/dispatch. When deploying manually you need to create the redirect yourself (not documented at the moment). The automatic installation creates this redirect by adding an index.html file to the root of the Insight application that redirects to servlet/dispatch and adding the file to the welcome file list in the deployment descriptor. Note that the Insight application can always be reached directly at http://localhost:port/insight/servlet/dispatch.

    2. The content manager is not running. This error typically appears when Cognos cannot connect to the content store database. Start by opening the Cognos Configuration utility and confirming that the content store database is configured correctly. Once you have a successful test in the configuration utility you should then restart your application server. Note that after restarting your application server it may take up to 15 minutes (for slower machines) for the content manager state to change to running.
