We have a setup where we have different types of items, for different types of work. This is done in a process that is a slight modification of the Scrum process.

For one of these special item types we would like to have the precondition that a parent is set before the item can be saved. "Parent" is unfortunately (for us) not included in the built in Required Properties preconditions for saving a work item. Is there any easy way to accomplish this?

We are on version 2.0.0.2.

I don't think we offer a pre-canned solution for this, so you would have
to write your own precondition. We are investigating ways to add more
flexibility for validation in 3.0.
