How can I change the directionality of a system-defined Link Type?

How can I change the directionality of a system-defined Link Type? I have requirements in one component that are extracted from documents in another component. Unfortunately, when I try to create a link from one component to another component, DOORS NG only allows me to use the outgoing link type (Extracted). This throws the semantics off.

Short answer is - you can't.

System defined types can't be edited, as they are set up in a specific way to be used internally by the system or by the specifications that define them. If you' are struggling to use them the way you want, that suggests you're trying to use them in a way they aren't meant to be used.

The extract link type was defined to capture the relationship between a text artefact that was created from content embedded in another text artefact (not a whole document), which implies a very close composition relationship between the extracted element and its parent. It also implies that the extracted information should be able to be displayed as embedded content in the parent text artefact if desired, therefore they need to live in the same project area.

My suggestion is to create a user defined link type for text artefacts that you duplicate into another component - perhaps a derivation or duplication link type, to show the copy is derived or duplicated form the original?
