Unable to start build engine

Hi,
I am using the RTC 2.0.0.1 the problem is when I try to run the build engine using command
C:\Program Files\IBM\TeamConcertBuild\buildsystem\buildengine\eclipse>jbe -vm "C
:\Program Files\IBM\SDP\jdk\bin\java" -repository https://localhost:9443/jazz/ -
userId pm1 -pass pm1 -engineId HelloWorldEngine

but keep getting the following error

2009-12-16 08:44:53 Running build loop...
2009-12-16 08:44:53 Waiting for request...
2009-12-16 08:44:55 CRRTC3528E: Error logging in to repository https://localhost:9443/jazz/ with user id: pm1
2009-12-16 08:44:55 CRRTC3523W: Authentication failed: CRJAZ0100I A password must be supplied.

Login credentials are correct and i am able to connect the repository in RTC client and the JDK version is

C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP\jdk\bin>java -version
java version "1.6.0" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build pwi3260sr2-20080818_01(SR2))
IBM J9 VM (build 2.4, J2RE 1.6.0 IBM J9 2.4 Windows Server 2003 x86-32 jvmwi3260
-20080816_22093 (JIT enabled, AOT enabled)
J9VM - 20080816_022093_lHdSMr
JIT - r9_20080721_1330ifx2
GC - 20080724_AA)
JCL - 20080808_02

Are you able to try on an actual Windows box, or try the Linux version of JBE?

Is this the issue ?

I don't think that is the problem.

I was having the exact same problem, and I was finally able to login, although I don't know what the issue was.

I think there is definitely a problem with the -pass option, because I could never login using it.

The -passwordFile option also seems to be a bit flawed, although it ultimately worked.

I could not login using a password file created using a relative path. Then I tried creating a password file using an absolute path, after I did that I was able to login using it . Although, I doubt that was the problem since I tried login in again using the relative password file, just out of curiosity and it worked this time. (?)

Actually, I was able to reproduce the problem: Not being able to login because of "password not supplied" then login successfully.

It appears that for some reason -passwordFile has to be the first argument in the command. That works for -pass too.

Beats me.

I gave it a try and was not able to reproduce the issue.

cmd line used: jbe -vm "C:\app\ibm_60\jre\bin\java" -repository https://localhost:9543/jazz/ -userId build -pass build -engineId TEST_ENGINE -sleepTime 30 -verbose

worked fine.
Win 2003 on VMWare
java version "1.6.0"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build pwi3260sr7-20091217_01(SR7))
IBM J9 VM (build 2.4, JRE 1.6.0 IBM J9 2.4 Windows Server 2003 x86-32 jvmwi3260s
r7-20091214_49398 (JIT enabled, AOT enabled)
J9VM - 20091214_049398
JIT - r9_20091123_13891
GC - 20091111_AA)
JCL - 20091202_01

Let's work on what are the differences.

I am using Windows XP. The following cmd didn't work:

C:\jazz\buildsystem\buildengine\eclipse>jbe -repository https://jazz04.rchland.ibm.com:9443/jazz -userId luisg@us.ibm.com -passwordFile pass.txt -engineId villa

2009-12-22 08:31:27 [Jazz build engine] CRRTC3523W: Authentication failed: CRJAZ0100I A password must be supplied.

C:\jazz\buildsystem\buildengine\eclipse>java -version
java version "1.5.0"

JIT - 20070419_1806_r8
GC - 200704_19)
JCL - 20070725

Then, this is working:

C:\jazz\buildsystem\buildengine\eclipse>jbe -passwordFile pass.txt -repository https://jazz04.rchland.ibm.com:9443/jazz -userId luisg@us.ibm.com -engineId villa

Luis,
I suspect the error could be raised by the RTC server.

I'm using 2.0.0.1 Tomcat + Oracle + Tomcat user registry.
May be you're using LDAP bluepages authentication...
and WAS?
Please provide details.
Thanks.

I doubt the problem is the server. I think it' the JVM. If you just want to reproduce it, try the same JVM.

The server we are using is Tomcat (I don't know what DB).
The authentication method is LDAP bluepages.

I tried the latest J9 (6) and I the problem went away.

In post 6 you said you tried with RTC 2.0.0.2 embedded JRE,
and it also failed.
Hence I discarded a JRE problem.

As a reminder, linked are server and client prereqs:
Server: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=3488&uid=swg27015746

Client: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=3488&uid=swg27015704

Glad it's fixed now.
Eric.

I said that?

Anyway, yes it looks like the problem was the JDK.
