Is it possible to make the "Planned for" date range an attribute of a work item?

I would like the date range of an iteration to be an attribute of a work item.  Does RTC expose this data in any way, shape, or form?

The date range is shown when you hover the mouse pointer over the Planned For attribute.

Technically it is possible to do a lot of things by extending RTC. It would be possible to calculate date attributes, based on the selected iteration, in work item save operations. This would have several problems and disadvantages. E.g. the iteration start and end date could be changed which would not be detected by any work item.
