Way to make initial stream always display without having to search for it in the Select Config Context box?

Rachel Heck (1711) | asked Aug 06 '18, 2:58 p.m.

We are preparing to upgrade from version 5.0.2 to 6.0.4 and will NOT have configuration management turned on. In playing with the upgraded domain, it appears that even though CM is off, we will still need to switch configurations between the initial stream (the only stream we will have) and any baselines that we create. Is there a permission or something that would allows us not to have to search for that initial stream in the Select the Configuration Context window, but have it automatically be displayed? It looks like we have to type the name of that initial stream or type an asterisk to search for it each time we want to change context.

 Hi Rachel,

We're on 6.0.3 (CM not turned on) and assuming it works the same, when you access a Project it should default to the "initial stream" automatically.  Once you've created a baseline, it continues to default to "initial stream" and you have to use Switch Configuration to view the baseline.

Before we installed IFIX011 we noticed that if you switched to a different project quickly, that the "initial stream" would sometimes show the stream for the previous project, in which case you would have to switch manually.  I'm wondering if that's what you're experiencing?

Good luck!

Carol

Thank you for your response, Carol!

It is defaulting to initial stream when we access the project. My question was more around when I'm in a baseline and then go to Switch Configuration to go back to the stream, I was wondering if there was a way to not have to search for the initial stream, but just have it appear automatically for selection. Since it is the only stream we would have the option to choose from, that seems to make sense to me. Right now when switching configs, you have to either type an asterisk or type in the name of the initial stream to see it for selection.

 Hi Rachel,

I see now, and I agree, since the current stream is always "Initial Stream" when you're not using CM, it would be nice if it always displayed for selection.  I suspect the behavior is aligned more for use with CM rather than RM only.

If I'm switching back and forth frequently between current stream and a baseline, my workaround is to open the project again in a new Window, and select the baseline there.
