What is the benefit of using hierarchies of Team Areas, that is using sub Team areas to a Team Area?

For example:
Assume we have a number of development team and one management team.

What would be the benefit of having development Team areas as sub team areas to the management team?

The process used by a team area is "inherited" by child team areas. So, in your example the project management group would configure the process (roles, permissions, operation behavior, etc) as appropriate and the development teams would then get the same settings. Child teams can usually override those settings.

One thing to note is that child team areas automatically use the same development line as their parent team areas and only top-level team areas can change the timeline. This means that your development teams would follow the same cycle as your management team in your scenario.
