RTC Ent. Ext. Translators - passing values between & conditions

I noticed that in RTC 6.0.4 you have the opportunity to define an ANT file in a traslator and also define return variables.

1. Can these be used for communicating between translator steps?
2. Can these be used for conditions "if" the next translator should be run - how do we access these?

3. Generally, is there any way to use a return value / variable output as condition for running next translator?
