extracting install disks for silent install

We are setting up a silent install and have the following question:

When I do the silent install , do I need to put the contents of the disk1 and disk2 image both into a combined directory? if not how would I tell the installer where the disk2 image is? Additionally ,if so should I merge the two "ad" directories?
