RTC downloads frequently fail....

Why RTC downloads frequently fail? I have tried almost 30 times before I downloaded the RTC2.0.0.1RC2.

Now I am trying to download RTC2.0.0.1, it already failed 10 times.

What is going one with the RTC download server?

Thanks
Nags

Can you tell me what country you are downloading from and what kind of internet connection speeds you have? Also, which browser, what exact download bits, and what is the condition of failure (i.e. download stalls, download never completes, download completes but is bad, etc.)? Our download system is not perfect and we do not currently have mirrors, so we unfortunately do experience a small percentage of people who have regular difficulty.

I am in CT, not precisely in the boondocks, and I too have this problem. I cannot even use wget since the downloads are hidden behind some barrier. If you don't have a reliable connection, could you at least make sure that the downloads are a real URL, so that people could use downloader such as curl or wget?

Hi, I am at Trenton, NJ, USA. I use Comcast CableModel service. The download just stalls. Never completes.

Thanks

I am downloading via the client network in Madrid and I still cannot download the 2.0.0.1 local install package. I understand the redirect need through the agreement notice so maybe the RTC server can also implement the IBM download manager so we can resume broken downloads?

ciao!

Unfortunately, we are very aware of the the percentage of downloads that fail somehow. We are currently investigating several different options for improving the situation, including a mirror setup and the IBM download grid.

Seth - this has been a problem ever since we first opened up jazz.net. Any idea when we might have a solution. I would hate people not being able to download RTC or any of the other software on jazz.net when they wanted to :-)

I was finally able to download the local install client for 2.0.0.1 yesterday after maybe 15 times. My download fails randomly but always after the 100MB mark so I am assuming either this is a timeout issue or a contention issue wherein the download server is killing some connections prematurely when its resources gets too low.

It might take more effort but until a resumable option is offered maybe it would be worthwhile to offer splitted archives of maximum of 50-100MB each that the downloader can then join. Hash/MD5/SHA-1 sums can be provided for each part so we can check which parts are bad and redownload them. Hopefully this approach will minimize the need for us to download the 606MB file each time it fails.

Btw, I need the local install as I am rolling this off to more than 20 developers and we are in a location where bandwidth is a premium.

ciao!

Seth, Can't you put this as http download? Currently it is coming out at https link. that's why I couldn't use open source freeware download managers.

Thanks

Hi

How about using Installation Manager, and setting up your local IM repository. Then all our colleagues can download from a local source and not have to outside your firewall.
