How can you stop RTC erroneous approval emails?

In RTC 6.0.1 iFix12, we found that sometimes the email that is generated for overdue approvals continues to be sent, even after the approval is approved/rejected or removed entirely. How can we stop these invalid emails?

What fixed it THIS time (thanks to an answer from a PMR) is that we changed the status a couple times. And it cleared up.
