Destroying user locks

Duncan Lilly (66104) | asked Sep 09 '09, 6:55 a.m.
I am a project admin in our RTC setup and need to be able to unlock user files (say in the event that someone goes away with a vital file locked).

We have tried set the permissions in the Process Configuration tab - under Source Control > Save Stream > Modify > Stream > Locking

According to the default "Everyone" setting it looks as though anyone can "Acquire, release or Transfer Locks", as well as "Destroy locks of others"

However people can only unlock their own files; including myself as a project admin. We tried creating a new role for admins and removing the destroy option for everybody, but it has had no effect.

How do we configure this so that everyone can create and project admins can destroy anyone's locks?

Many thanks.

Unfortunately there's a bug currently that forcing to unlock a file only
works from the Search view. So as a jazz-admin, you have to search for the
lock you want to unlock and then right click the entry in the search
result table and unlock it from there.

Is it possible that part of the problem is that I am a project admin (i.e. show up in the Administrators slist in the project properties page) , but not a JazzAdmin? The Jazz\RTC operators will not give us JazzAdmin rights. We want to be able to allow project admins to unlock any files.

It doesn't seem to make any difference where I try to unlock from - using the search view as you suggest still says that I cannot unlock it.

You are correct, the user needs the JazzAdmins repository group. It is not
enough for them to be an administrator of the project area.

Hi, I have the same problem. I have JazzAdmin role, and I'm also administrator of the projectArea on which there is the locked file (which has been locked from another administrator).

I've tried to unlock it using search view but it still gives me the same error: I can't unlock it beacuse it belongs to another user.

Any idea on how can I remove this lock?
Thanks,
Michele.

Hmmm, if you have the JazzAdmin repository group then there may be a bug. Can you double check and file a bug if this is the case?

Otherwise, you can try unlocking using the scm command line tool. scm lock release -f. The command line does a little less checking on the client side so maybe it will work.

Hi all,

We are using RTC SC for our document management. Several documents that we do not want modified were locked using the web UI. These documents have been locked for some time. Suddenly, all of these documents are unlocked. I am a JazzAdmin and have unlocked others' locks before and know I did not unlock any of the documents in question.

Are there any lock histories I can check to see who or how these documents became unlocked?

I looked at user history but lock/unlock doesn't seem to stick. My own history which should be packed with lock/unlock shows only a couple of the most recent.

We need to understand how these locks were unlocked.

Thanks,
Doug
