Attribute Customization - Default Values

All,

I created a new work item type called SN. When a SN is created, I want the Filed Against to be "Software Notice" and the user "john doe" to be subscribed.

Is this possible by work item type, or does this only effect all of the work items created?

For default values this is pretty uninteresting, I think, as the type may not set yet.
