Jazz and Cognos Relationship

Steve Foster (111) | asked Mar 10 '16, 4:05 p.m.
I thought this question posted already, but it's not there. I'm new to Cognos and have not worked with Jazz or BIRT either. In a nutshell can someone describe the relationship between Cognos and Jazz? Is Jazz for Cognos mostly used for access administration?

Hi Steve,

Prior to the 6.0 release, we shipped a component called Rational Reporting for Development Intelligence (RRDI) with the CLM server.  We provided the Cognos BI server and all the reporting resources required to use Cognos to report against the CLM data warehouse.  So in a nutshell, what you would get the ability to report on operational and historical/trending data as it pertained to the CLM application data.  We made this easier by providing Report Builder in the 5.0 release so that the average user can create powerful reports in a few clicks rather than relying on writing complex report expressions in Cognos.

Starting in the 6.0 release, we no longer provide the Cognos BI Server, but rather a connector that will allow you to achieve the same result if you stand up your own Cognos server.  I answered a question on this yesterday that has more of the technical details around the CLM reporting strategy for 6.0 and above (see here).  Hope it helps,

Thanks for your response.  As I understand the project won't have CLM but will have Cognos with Jazz and BIRT.  So not sure how Jazz fits in, all new to me.
