Permalink not reliable as hyperlink in document

A User has created an MS Word document with hyperlinks using permalinks to work items (CM) and artifacts (RM).
Some links work as expected, click on the hyperlink and JAZZ logs on, opens the project, and opens the work item.
Other links stop at the login.

It seems the RTC work item links work, but the RDNG links do not work.

Note that if I paste the link into the browser, the artifacts shows as expected.

Any idea why some hyperlinks work and some do not?
