From what I understand, Firefox does not cache the data upon loading it like IE does. Because of this, IE has always been known to be slower than Firefox. You can increase the number of downloads in IE (which may help your speed?) by going to this link and following the directions:

Also, make sure you dont have any uneccessary browser add-ins, these will take time to load which will slow down the browser.
Other than that, I recommend using Firefox as much as you can.
