Merging work items in two separate project area's

Glenn Watkins (88347) | asked Sep 08 '15, 9:06 a.m.
 Hi

Is it possible to merge work items (consolidate) from two separate project area's and retain the history and attachments from the all the work items. In other words the work items that we will be moving, can they be moved in bulk and keep their history and any attachments so that it is present in the new project area?

Thanking you in advance

Glenn

If the project areas are on the same server, then yes they can be moved.  I know that you can open each one and change the project area.  If the work item definitions are different between the two project areas, then you may end up "losing" some of the attributes.

You can also programmatically do this (write a java program using the java APIs), while in the process mapping attributes from the "old" work item definition to the "new" work item definition as needed.

However, unless something has changed in V6 .. you can't do this and retain history if they span servers.
