Exporting work items with full discussion threads

A nasty unavoidable network interruption almost froze our development for a whole day. This lead us to ask if it would be possible to run a report or export nightly to target the items in a current iteration (or the result of a query). This seems to be the best approximation of a "read-only, local cached work items".

Is this possible? Comments are not included in the details that can be added in a query result.
