Can you modify the ID string of an attribute in RTC?

Hi,

I have create a new attribute in a work item but had a typo in the ID name of the this new attribute. We currently can not update the field since it is grey'd out. But can you go to the XML and update the ID field that way? Not sure what other ramifications if I do it this way. Has anyone done this before?

thanks
-Arnold

You should chose your ID's carefully. Donald's answer is correct. If the attribute has been used the best way to change the ID is to create a new attribute, move the data over from the old attribute (CSV export/Import) and retire the old one.

You can do it (changing the ID in the process configuration source), but it effectively creates a "new" attribute with the new ID name. The original attribute with the typo still stays there. So, it does not actually "update" the attribute at all.
